Shri Rama and Maa Shabari

Translation: Sri Ram alone truly understands the rules and nature of love and affection, and how to reciprocate for the spiritual love and devotion! Sri Ram maintains the bond and the relationship of pure love only. [1]

King Dasarath cherished such true love for Shri Rama that he gave up his dear life as like a mere straw the moment Lord parted from him into exile, and thus Maharaj Dasarath established immutable fame for eternity in devotion of Shri Rama; but in comparison to such great father Dasarath, you bestowed the Mamta (closeness, dearness, love and respect) in greater degree to Jatayu the king of vultures, O' Rama! (Sri Ram himself performed the last rites for Jatayu, and took him in his laps, This was not received by even Maharaj Dasrath; which made Jatayu more fortunate than Maharaj Dasrath in a way). [2]

You [Rama] first chose [gave priority] to end the agonies of your friend Sugreeva in separation of his wife Ruma and forgotten [for some moment] the agony of your own wife Sita, dearer than your life! You first restored the wife (Ruma) to your friend by slaying Vali and thus ended the grief of your friend Sugreeva, instead of taking help from Vali and eliminating Ravana to end the grief of your dearest consort Sita! ). When Your dear brother Laxman lay wounded and unconscious in the battle-field, You were worried alot, still you had concern in greater degree for the welfare and future of Maharaj Vibhishana. [3]

You didn't find greater sweetness than the berries offered by Maa Shabari anywhere else when refreshments were served to you at home or at the hermitage of your Guru sage Vashishtha or at your friend's or at inlaws place wherever you were invited. [4]

Whenever seers, sages, yogis, hermits, ascetis started narrating your real nature [true form] as the most superior, the supreme Lord of all, the cause of all the causes, the supreme Purusa of Vedas, the all pervading, the formless all-encompassing Brahman, the supreme soul seated in everyone's heart, etc, then you bowed your head in modesty. But when lowly monkeys bereft of all manners (Sugriva, etc) and Kewat (boatman) call you a ‘friend’ or ‘brother’, then you feel content and happiness as if you were being really honoured or praised. [5]

Tulsidas says 'Oh brother! There is none like Shri Rama in all the 3 worlds and the 3 periods of time ( i.e. past, present, and future) who remains [forever] under the spell and the influence of (or, can be easily satisfied by) pure love and devotion. He even went to the extent of declaring to Hanuman, 'Even If I give up my life for every single act of benevolence rendered by you, Yet I shall remain indebted and obliged to you for the rest, O' Hanuman! Let My obligation to you dissove in my heart forever and I may not find any occasion to repay them! — Such is the pedestal of Shri Rama’s sense of gratification. So who feels more grateful and obliged for services rendered to him than Sri Ram? [6]

(Goswami Ji thinks) Oh Tulsidas! Even after seeing such a lovable, endearing, affectionate nature and mild disposition, sublime conducts and noble characters of Sri Ram, if devotion does not arise in your heart, then your mother certainly wasted her adulthood in conceiving and giving birth to you'. (means, if someone doesn't get love, affection and devotion for Shri Rama after listening his lovable nature and his sublime conducts and noble characters, then his human birth is futile.). [7]
